Immersive Libraries and Museums

As technology advances, our use of the tech world is widening. What used to be searching for a books in a library by aisle became to looking for documents and resources online by simply typing in the key words. What used to be in print is now all available online. The change in immersive education libraries and museums has also brought change into the classrooms. These changes has brought cooperation and collaboration easier by allowing students to work out of class.

The changes in immersive education is has not only brought changes into the classroom, but also among librarians. The addition of new sources, such as digital literature, the job as librarians are becoming more complex. Librarians must familiarize these new sources, for them to communicate and be accessible to others. Although the immersive education libraries and museums is not physical, the need of assistance is necessary.

The purpose of the Library and Museum Technology Working Group is to go beyond the physical libraries with print resources. The addition of interactive 3D graphics and animation, video game and simulation technology, virtual reality, full, augmented and mixed reality, voice over IP, web cams and many other digital media can now become resources. The development of the new resources can bring more advances toward Immersive Education, such as virtual collaborative study spaces, virtual information literacy programs, virtual research and course consultations, and virtual service delivery.

The mission statement of "the Libraries and Museum Technology Working Group (LIB.TWG) is responsible for defining, implementing, evolving and maintaining applications and open standards related to the provision of library and museum services associated with Immersive Education". In order for the Immersive Education Libraries and Museums to succeed, this group must be up-to-date, prepare and publish documents constantly, develop designs that are fit for the Immersive Libraries and Museums, and have a community with researchers and practitioners for meeting in the virtual world.
